Key Growth Years

Your Primary 4 child should focus on refining key learning skills that help him or her to apply knowledge mastery. This year is about setting clear academic and personal growth goals that put your child in stead for managing upper primary.

In Primary 4, your child will focus on honing key component-based skills that lead to the proficient and precise use of the Malay language. Your child will also focus on developing his or her critical thinking and metacognitive skills.

Content and Language Mastery

Students will learn the complete MOE vocabulary list and basic grammar structure to help them to build a strong foundation in the language. These include:

  • Thematic word banks
  • Grammar synthesis
  • Idioms and proverbs

Skills and Techniques

Students will refine their skills in the following key areas:

  • Speaking
    • effective communication skills for exams and real-world situations  
    • presentation and conversation topics  
    • accurate and fluent description, interpretation and evaluation of pictures and videos   
    • recount personal experiences in relation to topics of discussion  
    • use of appropriate vocabulary to briefly articulate own opinions / views / feelings about the topic in discussion
  • Reading and Writing
    • understand the theme, main ideas and key details
    • source for specific information and infer the meaning of words and sentences  
    • compare opinions, content, and changes in characters  
    • question analysis and answering techniques through skills-based modules   
    • write stories which include: introduction, rising action, climax, resolution and ending (with the learning points)   
    • addition of exterior and interior monologue in stories   
    • use of some descriptors and good phrases in stories

Contextualised Learning
