Triple P – takes the Guesswork out of Parenting

Umi Hamidah - CopyThe Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programs in the world, backed up by more than 30 years of ongoing research. Triple P gives parents simple and practical strategies to help them confidently manage their children’s behaviour, prevent problems developing and build strong, healthy relationships.

Triple P is currently used in 25 countries and has been shown to work across cultures, socio-economic groups and in all kinds of family structures.

The five steps to creating a happier family life in Triple P include:-

  1. Create a safe, interesting environment
  2. Have a positive learning environment
  3. Use assertive discipline
  4. Have realistic expectations
  5. Take care of yourself as a parent

Smart Excel is among the first learning center to partner Ms Hamidah Bahsawan to offer Parents and Parents to be steps towards SMART Parenting skills and strategies through Triple P strategies, Love & Logic framework and EQ Parenting competencies. The purpose of this workshop is to provide stronger support for parents who wish to improve their children’s behaviour and reduce parenting stress.

About The Speaker

SHamidahLSiti Hamidah Abdullah Bahashwan, MSc Psychology (University of Surrey, UK, 1995), BA Social Work and Sociology (National University of Singapore, 1981) is trained to conduct the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme and the 6 seconds Emotional Intelligence workshop.

A dynamic and engaging speaker, Siti Hamidah Bahashwan has worked with thousands of young couples, parents, teenagers, and children in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Australia and USA. She is a well sought consultant who has appeared as a professional presenter and resource person in Singapore’s radio and television programmes, and has been interviewed in an Australian community radio station on the Inter-religious Peace Work she participated in. In 2006 she became the consultant for TV children programme and appeared as the co-host of the programe “EQ : Lebih dari Buku” (EQ: more than Books). She writes various articles in local newspapers and magazines and is currently writing her book for publication. Recently (2007) Siti Hamidah was invited to be one of 11 panel members discussing on the issue of “Think Family Talk Family” a joint project by MCYS and MediaCorp.

Siti Hamidah Bahashwan is a community activist serving various community organisations. She is a member of the Society Against Family Violence Board since 1996 and elected as Vice President in 1998.  She was honoured with the Friends of MCDS Award (Ministry of Community Development and Sports which is now known as MCYS or Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports) in 1997 and has been actively involved in community work helping families through series of talks, workshops, seminars and enrichment programme. She has served as the Board of Visitor with MCYS and is currently the Executive committee member of  PPIS (Persatuan Pemudi Islam Singapura) also known as  theYoung Woman Muslim Association).

Siti Hamidah started her career as a teacher, moved on to serve as Social Worker cum Counsellor and in 2000 set up her own private practice in counselling and mediation. Siti Hamidah has been very passionate about helping others and making a difference through mediation, counseling, training and consultation services. A wide range of people ranging from corporate clients, individuals, couples and parents sought her professional service.  In between writing, mediating or counselling clients and training, Siti Hamidah travels widely to Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and Korea to conduct inter-religious youth service expressing her passion for inter-religious harmony and peace work.
