Skills and Techniques

Key Growth Years
Your Primary 4 child should focus on refining key learning skills that help him or her to apply knowledge mastery. This year is about setting clear academic and personal growth goals that put your child in stead for managing upper primary.
The transition from Primary 3 to Primary 4 involves the shifts from the ability to recall to the ability to apply knowledge for topics with abstract concepts. Find out more.

Skills and Techniques
Students are given extensive practice on experiment-based questions to build their confidence in applying their knowledge and expressing their understanding of science concepts.
Students will learn to draw relationships between variables based on the results of an experiment.
Students will be exposed to application questions where they have to approach questions with unfamiliar context based on the concepts that they have learned and answer in the context of the question.
Students will learn by conducting experiments and observing abstract scientific concepts in action.
Students will be aware of the science around them through fun passages such as the effect of heat during the process of making ice cream.
Your child is making his or her preparations for the PSLE exams. In this year, programmes focus on sharpening your child’s focus on academic goals and exam skills. This year is about helping your child to pace himself or herself whilst empowering him or her to master key examination components.
The move to upper block Science topics requires students to integrate their understanding of various topics and have a more sophisticated approach to the application and presentation of their knowledge.
Students will be introduced to new topics such as Cells, Electrical System, Water and Changes of State and Reproduction in Plants
Students will have regular revision of topics from the Lower Block.
Skills and Techniques
Students will have greater exposure to questions that involve experimental skills and the application of science concepts to real-world scenarios.
Students will recognize the function of a control set-up and how to construct an appropriate control set-up for a given experiment.
Students will be closely guided on how to use appropriate science keywords, in the context of specific questions, in their explanations for open-ended questions.

In the PSLE year, students will meet the challenge of revising content knowledge accumulated from Primary 3 to Primary 6 whilst preparing for a series of examinations leading up to the national exam. Our Primary 6 programmes place a strong emphasis on evaluative learning and giving students the best academic and learning support to hone strengths and work on areas of progress.
During the year, your child will be mentored closely by teachers and learn within a structured syllabus schedule that sets the right momentum for tackling the major national exam.
Students will be introduced to new topics such as Sources and Forms of Energy and Forces.
Students will acquire a deeper understanding of topics through comprehensive notes with examples of common questions and experiments.
Students will be provided with tutorials for regular practice and extensive exposure to various questions.
Skills and Techniques
Students will practice exam techniques such as data and question analysis as well as experimental skills.
Students will analyze experimental set-ups and recognize how a controlled variable ensures a fair experiment and the purpose of a controlled variable.
Students will be made aware of common pitfalls and learn how to analyze them in order to avoid losing marks unnecessarily.
Students will be given extension practice to application questions where they approach questions with unfamiliar contexts.
Revision and Reinforcement
Students will practice multiple mock examination papers to prepare for every exam in Primary 6.
Students will undergo a systemic, topical-based revision of all topics, common and challenging questions from Primary 3 to Primary 6.
