Primary Malay

Fundamental Years

Primary 1 programmes aim to familiarise your child with the academic and social conditions that are part of Primary school. Learning is informed by a strong sense of interest-building and helping your child to expand his or her awareness of people, places and things that are part of primary school curriculum as well as the wider world around him or her.

The Primary 1 Malay programme will help your child manage formal components of Malay language study. In addition to enhancing his or her reading, writing and speaking skills, there are also component-based skills to help your child gain confidence in his or her learning of Malay.

Content and Language Mastery

Students will learn the complete MOE vocabulary list and basic grammar structure to help them build a strong foundation in the language. These include:

  • Thematic word banks
  • Grammar synthesis
  • Idioms and proverbs

Skills and Techniques

Students will refine their skills in the following key areas:

Speaking

    • effective communication skills for exams and real-world situations
    • presentation and conversation topics
    • describe, interpret and evaluate pictures accurately and fluently

Reading and Writing

    • passage and question analysis
    • answering techniques
    • basic and complex sentence structures

Fundamental Years

Primary 2 programmes introduce your child to key concepts needed for middle primary school years. Your child will work on mastering the basics of each subjects while exploring various topics that help them make a real connection between what they learn in school and the world around them. Communication, presentation of ideas and interaction with others remain an integral part of learning and development.

Our Primary 2 Malay programme will help continue to help your child to strengthen key areas of reading, writing and speaking. There will also be increased focus on his or her writing and reading skills

    • basic plot structures, character descriptions and scene-setting

Contextualized Learning

Students will be introduced to a wide variety of themes that will help them to contextualize their learning in the real world and raise their social awareness. Key themes include:

  • Technology and science
  • Cultural awareness: Malay

Key Growth Years

Middle primary school years are about mastering component-based skills whilst honing learning sensibilities like refinement, precision, self-evaluation and time management. Our programmes aim to achieve these goals whilst continually expanding your child’s academic knowledge in each subject.

The Primary 3 Malay programme will help your child to grow in confidence and ability to understand and use the Malay language. With structured approaches to building both language and skills mastery, your child will be able to interpret and respond to various reading, writing and speaking tasks.

Students will be introduced to a wide variety of themes that will help them to contextualize their learning in the real world and raise their social awareness. Key themes include:

Key Growth Years

Your Primary 4 child should focus on refining key learning skills that help him or her to apply knowledge mastery. This year is about setting clear academic and personal growth goals that put your child in stead for managing upper primary.

In Primary 4, your child will focus on honing key component-based skills that lead to the proficient and precise use of the Malay language. Your child will also focus on developing his or her critical thinking and metacognitive skills.
