SMART Preparatory Preparatory Course for GCE ‘N’ Level provides a comprehensive programme that equips students with the necessary learning competencies that prepare them for the annual examination of the joint awarding authorities- Ministry of Education, Singapore and the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘N’ Levels.

The strong foundation of this programme lies on the series of internal assessments namely: Mid-Year and Preliminary Examinations, which are facilitated by the Department once in the Academic Year for the respective examination cycle. These assessments are carefully designed and prepared by the internal and competent assessors of the department, to gauge the readiness of the students for the actual examination.

Ratio Teacher : Student = 1 : 10

• At least 15 years old as of 1st January of the examination year.
• Applicants should meet one of these additional requirements:

  • Completed Secondary 2 education (or equivalent) with Pass (at least C6 and above) in English and Mathematics, OR Passed SMART EXCEL entrance test

• A full-time course runs 5 days in a week with each day lasting 3 hours. Therefore, all Singaporean applicants who intend to enroll into a full-time GCE N(A) or O-Level preparatory course will need to get the approval of the Ministry of Education (MOE). SMART EXCEL will assist in submitting such applications to the MOE.

• Any Singaporean male applicant who wants to defer from full-time national service must be enrolled as a full-time student. Such an application will need to be approved by the MOE first. Do take note that the approval of NS deferment is at the discretion of the Ministry of Defence.

• Admission is subject to approval of the SMART EXCEL management.

Classes are conducted using the following methodologies:

All full-time local and international students must meet a monthly attendance of 90%. Student pass shall be subjected to cancellation if the monthly attendance is not met continuously.

Students are assessed by means of oral and written tests and examinations during the course. Upon completion of the course, students will sit for the external GCE N level test conducted by SEAB.

• Oral examination: July/August
• Practical & written examination: October to November

Teaching and Learning

This programme is delivered by a team of dedicated and qualified teachers. The lessons are held in the classrooms. Students will also be given additional work to complete outside of scheduled classes

All students are expected to register for their GCE N Level Examination online at http://www.seab.gov.sg.

16 Months

• Completed at least Secondary 3 education or equivalent
• Minimum Age: 15 years old (as at 1st Jan of the year of GCE ‘O’ Level examinations)
• Language Proficiency: Secondary 3 English / Certificate in English or equivalent / IELTS 5.0 or equivalent /  Online English Placement Test conducted by SMART EXCEL / Achieve score of 75 and above in Duolingo English Test or equivalent

24 Months

• Completed at least Secondary Two Education / Year 8 or equivalent
• Minimum Age: 14 (as at 1st Jan of the year of GCE ‘O’ Level examinations)
• Language Proficiency: Completed Secondary Two English / Year 8 English / Certificate in English (CIE) or equivalent / Achieve score of 75 and above in Duolingo English Test or equivalent
